Coachella 2027 takes place April 9–11 and April 16–18 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. There are five ways to get from your hotel, rental or airport to the grounds: the festival shuttle, rideshare, driving with a parking pass, walking or biking if you are staying close, and a private chauffeured vehicle. This guide compares all five, with typical drive times from every city in the valley, so you can choose before the weekend instead of standing in a lot at 1 a.m.

We are Palm Springs Limousine Services, the valley's own limo and party bus company, so yes, we sell the last option. The comparison is still straight: for some people the festival shuttle is the right call.

The Five Ways In, Compared

1. Festival shuttle

Coachella sells shuttle passes, on their own or bundled with a general admission pass, with buses running between stops around the valley and the grounds. Good: cheapest per person, no parking. Bad: you ride the shuttle's route and schedule, the lines after the headliner can be long, and the nearest stop may not be your hotel. Best for one or two people on a budget who are staying near a stop.

2. Rideshare

Uber and Lyft drop off and pick up at a designated rideshare area. Good: on demand, no planning. Bad: surge pricing when every set ends, long waits after the headliner, and a walk to the lot. Best for arriving at odd hours when nothing else fits.

3. Driving with a parking pass

Coachella sells parking passes separately from festival passes, and they are limited. Good: your car, your schedule. Bad: dirt lots, dust, heat, slow exits, and somebody has to stay sober for the drive back. Best for locals who leave before the final set.

4. Walking or biking

If your rental is within a mile or two of the grounds in Indio or La Quinta, walking or biking can work well. Bad: April heat on the way in and a dark walk back after midnight.

5. Private chauffeured vehicle

A sedan, SUV, Sprinter or party bus with a chauffeur, booked for the day or the weekend. Good: a fixed price set in advance, pickup at your door, an agreed pickup spot and time after the show, everyone rides together and nobody drives. Bad: for one person it costs more than a shuttle pass; the per-rider cost only beats rideshare once you have a group. Best for groups of four or more, anyone staying in Palm Springs or Palm Desert, and anyone who has done the rideshare lot once. See Coachella 2027 packages or Coachella party bus rental.

Drive Times to the Empire Polo Club

Typical times before festival traffic. On show days, allow extra time for the last few miles, especially on Friday afternoons.

  • Indio, Coachella: 5 to 15 minutes. The closest hotels and rentals; the best choice if you want to go back between sets.
  • La Quinta, Indian Wells: 15 to 25 minutes.
  • Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage: 20 to 35 minutes. Resort row, with the most restaurant and pool-party options.
  • Palm Springs, Cathedral City: 30 to 45 minutes. Downtown nightlife and the biggest choice of lodging.
  • Desert Hot Springs: 40 to 50 minutes.
  • Palm Springs International Airport (PSP): about 35 minutes.
  • Los Angeles and LAX: about 2.5 to 3 hours, longer on festival Fridays. See LA to Coachella transfers.

Where to Stay, by How You Plan to Get There

  • Shuttle riders: book a hotel that is a shuttle stop, or within a short walk of one.
  • Rideshare riders: stay in Indio or La Quinta so the surge and the wait hurt less.
  • Private vehicle: stay wherever you like. Palm Springs nightlife, a Palm Desert resort or a La Quinta house all work when the car comes to you.

Timing the Day

Gates usually open around midday or early afternoon, and the heaviest traffic into the grounds runs from mid-afternoon into the evening. Leaving before that rush, or after it, saves real time. Leaving the grounds, the first half hour after the headliner is the slowest for every option except a pre-arranged private pickup, where your vehicle is already waiting at the agreed spot.

Set times are usually posted in the days before each weekend. Pick the first act you will not miss, work back from it, and share that with whoever is driving.

What to Bring for the Ride

Water, a portable charger, your wristband registered and on your wrist, a light layer for the ride home after midnight, and your pickup spot saved on your phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you park at Coachella?

Yes, with a parking pass, which Coachella sells separately from festival passes. The lots are open dirt fields and are slow to empty after the last set, so many people staying off-site use the festival shuttle, rideshare or a private car service instead.

Where is Coachella held?

At the Empire Polo Club, 81-800 Avenue 51, Indio, California, in the eastern Coachella Valley about 25 miles from downtown Palm Springs.

What is the closest airport to Coachella?

Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), about 35 minutes from the grounds. Ontario (ONT) is about 1.5 hours away and LAX about 2.5 to 3 hours. We run chauffeured transfers from all three.

Can you take Uber or Lyft to Coachella?

Yes, through the festival's designated rideshare area, but prices surge when sets end and the wait after the headliner can be long. A pre-booked chauffeured vehicle has a fixed price and an agreed pickup time.

Which city should we stay in for Coachella?

Indio and La Quinta are closest to the grounds. Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage have the resorts. Palm Springs has the nightlife and the most lodging but the longest drive. With a private vehicle, the distance matters much less.

What time should we leave for the festival?

Gates usually open around midday or early afternoon, and the roads into the grounds are slowest from mid-afternoon into the evening. Pick the first act you will not miss and work back from it; our chauffeurs plan every departure that way.
